Hillary Clinton and New York Mayor Bill de Blasio participated in a skit a few days ago that made a reference to “CP time.” Normally, that means “colored people time,” the joke playing on a stereotype about black people showing up late, but it was subverted when de Blasio said he meant “cautious politician time.”
The mayor defended himself and said people were missing the joke, that “the whole idea was to do the counterintuitive by saying cautious politician time.”
It’s been getting more attention in the past few days, even if cable news has been oddly silent, and Clinton herself was asked about it in an interview with Cosmopolitan.
In the interview (where she also dismissed the idea she’s been condescending to Bernie Sanders‘ young voters), Clinton addressed the sketch thusly:
Well, look, it was Mayor de Blasio’s skit. He has addressed it, and I will really defer to him because it is something that he’s already talked about.
Cautious politician time indeed.
