Home Depot Employee Gets Online Scorn for ‘America Was Never Great’ Hat

A Home Depot employee got some big online blowback for wearing an “America Was Never Great” hat to work. Here’s the hat in question:

america was never great

At least one photo of Krystal Lake in the hat was posted online (though she says no one complained to her in person when she wore it on Monday). But as the week progressed, it got way more attention online:

Lake spoke out to The New York Times and said she got some death threats, though she dismissed them as just coming from internet trolls.

This was how Home Depot responded to this whole fracas in a statement:

Mr. Holmes said that the company respected “the personal opinions and beliefs held by our associates and our customers,” but that the store was not an appropriate place for workers “to promote or display personal opinions, beliefs, political and religious affiliations or any type of proselytizing.”
