You can’t do much better than this for an opening weekend college football showdown — No. 1 Alabama takes on No. 3 Florida State in primetime on Saturday night, live from the all-new Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.
The Crimson Tide are looking to bounce back after losing the National Championship in heartbreaking fashion last season, dropping the title game to Clemson on the very last play. But as always under head coach Nick Saban, this squad figures to be a prime championship contender. Quarterback Jalen Hurts returns under center after a strong freshman campaign. And the Alabama defense, which stymied so many opponents in 2016, should be strong once again.
The Seminoles, meanwhile, are a trendy pick to have a monster season after falling in the ACC to Clemson and Louisville a year ago. Quarterback Deondre Francois figures to lead a potent Florida State offensive attack in 2017, while cornerback Tarvarus McFadden and safety Derwin James help make up what could be the nest defensive backfield in college football.
This one should be fun. A sensational way to kick off the season in earnest.
Kickoff for the game is 8:00 p.m. ET. Chris Fowler and Kirk Herbstreit will call the action. The game will air live on ABC. It will also be streamed online, via WatchESPN, free with a cable subscription. The Watch ESPN app can be downloaded from Apple’s iTunes Store, and the Google Play store.
