It seemed all but certain that both Fox News and Fox Business would be all over CNN Monday for its article many believe fawned over Kim Yo Jong — the sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.

“If ‘diplomatic dance’ were an event at the Winter Olympics, Kim Jong Un’s younger sister would be favored to win gold,” said the CNN article. “With a smile, a handshake and a warm message in South Korea’s presidential guest book, Kim Yo Jong has struck a chord with the public just one day into the PyeongChang Games.”

Appearing on Varney & Co., Fox News MediaBuzz host Howard Kurtz ripped CNN for the piece and its headline: “Kim Jong-un’s Sister is Stealing the Show at the Winter Olympics.”

“I don’t know what was more cringe-inducing,” Kurtz said. “The CNN headline…about stealing the show, or lead sentence, ‘If diplomatic dance were a event at Olympics, Kim Jong-un’s sister would be favored to win gold.’ I mean, that kind of credulous reporting on an official from the world’s most brutal and oppressive regime, that’s just embarrassing.”

Kurtz went on to blast the media as a whole for similarly positive coverage of Kim Yo Jong.

“I do think they’re very easily charmed and swayed by a young woman with a pleasant smile,” he said.

He added, “North Korea got out of this exactly what it wanted. Seizing this, trying to drive a wedge between the Trump Administration and South Korea. And the tone of some of this coverage I think just completely missed the mark.”
