Israeli Troops Filmed Beating French Journos Will Face ‘Disciplinary Measures’

Israeli soldiers who were filmed confronting and beating a pair of French journalists on Friday will face “disciplinary measures,” according to a military spokesperson.

The Associated Press reports that a cameraman and photographer with the Agence France-Presse, who were covering a protest at the West Bank, were suddenly caught up in what the Foreign Press Association described as an “unprovoked attack.” One of the two journalists was punched and thrown to the ground, while the other was held at gunpoint as soldiers destroyed thousands of dollars worth of equipment.

News of the attack went viral when video of the incident was posted online:

A preliminary assessment of the incident by the Israeli military suggests that “forces operated in contradiction to procedures and in violation of standing orders.” As a result, the individuals who took part in the attack will face discipline.
