During his final daily press briefing as White House Press Secretary, Josh Earnest was given a bit of a surprise.
After Earnest recounted some of his most memorable moments speaking to the press over the years, President Barack Obama showed up to give Earnest a personal send-off.
“I am not interrupting because he was saying nice things about you guys,” Obama said, addressing the press. “Because I largely concur.”
POTUS then went on to praise Earnest for the job he’s done as press sec. After complimenting Earnest for his good looks and appropriate last name, Obama discussed his personality.
“But what struck me most in addition to his smarts and his maturity and his actual interest in the issues was his integrity,” the president said.
Obama also brought up how long he’s known Earnest and how he’s seen him develop as a person.
“I have now known this guy for ten years almost,” he explained. “I’ve watched him grow, and I’ve watched him advance, and I’ve watched him marry, and I’ve watched him be a father, and I’ve watched him manage younger people coming up behind him and he has never disappointed.”
