Former Subway spokesman Jared Fogle is currently under house arrest on charges of possessing child pornography and having sex with minors, but another report out today says the foundation he ran was a sham.
USA Today looked into the Jared Foundation (incidentally, the foundation’s executive director was arrested months ago for child exploitation and possession of child pornography), set up years ago with the goal of distributing grants to groups and schools that would fight childhood obesity, and they found that it issued a grand total of zero grants.
Tax records show a significant percentage of the foundation’s funds from 2009 to 2013 went to the executive director’s salary and most of the rest is unaccounted for.
It was technically dissolved by the state of Indiana in 2012 after ignoring multiple delinquency notices for failing to pay an annual registration fee.
Fogle is currently expected to plead guilty to child porn and a charge related to sex with a minor.
