Jimmy Kimmel is reminding Senator Bill Cassidy (R-LA) he made a promise that Senate Republicans would not come up with a health care bill that would block treatment to Americans who cannot pay for it.
Reminder for Sen @BillCassidy: Kimmel test is "No family should be denied medical care, emerg or otherwise, because they can’t afford it"
— Jimmy Kimmel (@jimmykimmel) June 25, 2017
Last month, Kimmel got involved in the health care reform debate when he delivered an emotional monologue about his newborn son’s health conditions. Kimmel mused that even though he could afford treatments to help his son, he was worried about those who might be forced to make difficult choices if they cannot afford essential health care.
Kimmel’s speech gained major attention back in May, and Cassidy stated he wanted a health care reform bill that would pass the “Jimmy Kimmel test.” Washington Examiner notes that Cassidy appeared on CBS’s Face The Nation today, and he expressed concerns about the current proposal being debated in the Senate.
“Right now, I am undecided,” said Cassidy. “There are things in this bill that adversely affect my state, that are peculiar to my state…But if those can be addressed, I will (vote for it). If they can’t, I won’t.”
