Morning Joe co-hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski weighed in on reports of a growing rift between White House strategist Steve Bannon and presidential son-in-law Jared Kushner.
The hosts spoke of a Business Insider scoop quoting anonymous sources saying that Breitbart editors had ordered a reduction of critical coverage against Kushner. Before his role in the White House, Bannon served as Chairman and CEO of the far-right website.
“They had to back down,” said Scarborough. “Steve Bannon is an island unto himself in the White House. Any allies he may have had have scattered.”
Scarborough — who has become a near-daily critic of Bannon, said that his White House sources painted a picture of a man in crisis.
“What White House insiders cannot come to grips with, and I talked to three of the presidents’ top people yesterday, they do not understand what happened to Steve Bannon,” he said. “Why he decided to start attacking the president’s family. The word I heard from all three was ‘he just snapped.'”
