John Kelly Slams Jeff Flake for Anti-Trump Speech: ‘I Think It’s Beneath Him’
White House Chief of Staff John Kelly told Fox News’s Bret Baier Wednesday evening that Sen. Jeff Flake‘s comments about President Donald Trump were unwarranted and childish.
Flake took to the Senate floor Wednesday to denounce Trump’s treatment of the press, most prominently noting that Trump “uses words infamously spoken by Joseph Stalin to describe his enemies.”
Kelly said that such comments are “unfortunate” and “completely wrong.”
“I think it’s beneath him, but he is a United States Senator and he has his opinions, and he can voice them any way he wants, I guess,” Kelly said.
The Twittersphere wasn’t very kind to Flake, either, with Trump supporters accusing him of sucking up to the “MSM” and those against Trump saying he’s all talk and no action. Some of the latter pointed out that Flake has voted 90 percent with the president — with one of the dissensions being that Flake voted against sending aid to Puerto Rico in the wake of Hurricane Maria.
