John Oliver Buries Tucker Carlson: He’s the Answer to the Question ‘What if the Sound THUD Grew a Face?’
The controversial clips of Tucker Carlson calling in to shock jock Bubba the Love Sponge‘s radio show were unearthed late Sunday evening, March 10 — meaning HBO’s John Oliver had to wait a full week to get his shots in on the Fox News host. But when the comic finally got his chance, he made it count.
As part of his feature segment on Last Week Tonight, Oliver buried Carlson — whom he referred to as the answer to the question, “What if the sound ‘thud’ grew a face?”
Oliver played a clip of Carlson lamenting the anger generated by his comments.
“The great American outrage machine is a remarkable thing,” Carlson said. “One day you’re having dinner with your family imagining everything is fine, the next your phone is exploding with calls from reporters.”
“Okay, first of all, no one having dinner with Tucker Carlson has ever imagined everything was fine,” Oliver said. “Most people’s answer to the question, “If you could have dinner with anyone, living or dead [who would it be]?” is ‘Tucker Carlson, dead.'”
Oliver went on to note some of the hashtags which have gained traction on Twitter, such as #boycotttuckercarlson, #firetuckercarlson, and introduced a new one — #tuckercarlsonfuckshisroomba.
“That one wasn’t technically trending,” Oliver said. “But I have this very weird feeling that it will be in 20 minutes or so.”
