Justin Amash Scorches Opponent in Victory Speech: ‘I Ran for Office to Stop People Like You’
Last night, Rep. Justin Amash (R-MI) easily won his primary against challenger Brian Ellis by 14 points. But graciousness wasn’t on his mind as he announced his victory — in fact, he obliterated his opponent and his supporters in a scorched-earth speech.
“I ran for office to stop people like you,” he declared to cheers.
“You owe my family and this community an apology for your disgusting, despicable smear campaign. You had the audacity to try and call me today after running a campaign that was called the nastiest in the country.”
He also turned his metaphorical flamethrower at Ellis supporter, former congressman, and two-time failed candidate Pete Hoekstra, calling him a “disgrace, and I’m glad we could hand you one more loss before you fade into total obscurity and irrelevance.” Fwoosh.
(If you forgot, there was a time when Ellis’s allies called the Arab-American Amash “Al Qaeda’s best friend in Congress,.” Ellis repeated these allegations in an ad against Amash, and, frankly, Amash wasn’t very happy about that.)
“They thought they were going to run this smear campaign and be successful,” he stated. “We’re taking [our] country back from those who have contempt for the American people.”
