Keith Boykin and Steve Rogers Slug it Out Over Trump Rally: ‘Shame On You!’
A CNN panel got heated when Democratic commentator Keith Boykin and former Trump advisory board member Steve Rogers went at it over President Donald Trump.
On Wednesday’s At This Hour, fill-in anchor Clarissa Ward asked Rogers if he thought it would be a good idea for Trump to privately call Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell in an attempt to smooth things over.
“I’m sure he has,” Rogers said.
Boykin was incredulous.
“Ha! Donald Trump?! Are you serious?!” Boykin said.
Rogers charged ahead.
“It’s on Mitch McConnell also,” Rogers said. “My point with the President of the United States is, we’re all hearing the side the left wants us to hear. You can roll your eyes. There’s good this man has done.”
Boykin did indeed roll his eyes at the idea that Trump has made steps to smooth things over with McConnell.
“Don’t tell me it’s what the left wants to hear,” Boykin said. “This is an unhinged, unstable man who is incapable of working with anybody.”
After a brief respite as Ward went to other panelists, the argument renewed when Rogers referenced Missouri state legislator Maria Chappelle-Nadal, who wrote in a Facebook post that she hoped Trump would be assassinated — a comment for which she later apologized.
“You know what hurts politics, when a state legislature calls for the assassination of the president,” Rogers said. “It’s tragic. That should never have come out of the mouth of elected officials.”
“The word you mean is legislator, not legislature,” Boykin said. “It was one person. She apologized. Trump has never apologized.”
“All you do is personally attack [Trump]!” Rogers said. “You ought to be ashamed of yourself. Shame on you!”
“Shame on you for lying!” Boykin replied.
