For months, that’s been the position of President Donald Trump and the White House. They have insisted that they did not collude with Russia during the 2016 campaign.
But in the wake of the Donald Trump Jr. revelations this week, conservative pundit Charles Krauthammer just doesn’t buy it.
Appearing on Special Report Thursday night, Krauthammer said that, in his view, Trump Jr.’s meeting with a Russian lawyer, while not criminal, does indeed meet the definition of collusion.
“I don’t think anybody’s claiming it’s illegal,” Krauthammer said. “But…the one thing it does do, it totally undermines a six-month story from the White House to which I was sympathetic that there wasn’t any collusion.”
The fact that they collusion wasn’t necessarily well executed is irrelevant, according to Krauthammer. The attempt is all that matters.
“This was a bungled collusion,” Krauthammer said. “This was amateurish collusion. Keystone cops collusion. But it doesn’t change the fact there was attempted collusion and it undoes the White House story completely.”
