Kirstjen Nielsen’s Spokesman Has the Most Hilarious Spin For Her Getting Chased Out of Mexican Restarant

A group of rowdy protestors heckled Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen out of a Mexican restaurant on Tuesday evening, chanting “Shame!” and “Abolish ICE” at the official seen by many as the face of migrant separation.

It came down to the Homeland Security spokesman, Tyler Q. Houlton, to put a spin on the imbroglio that might end the bad headlines, and lordy did he deliver.

“While having a work dinner tonight, the Secretary and her staff heard from a small group of protestors who share her concern with our current immigration laws that have created a crisis on our southern border,” Houlton wrote in a tweet.

Yikes. Nielsen was heckled by a group of Democratic Socialists of America, protesting the Trump administration’s policy of separating child migrants from their families at the southern border.

That “zero tolerance” policy, which holds that first time border crossers will be prosecuted and their children sent to detention centers, was enacted by Trump’s Attorney General Jeff Sessions in April. The administration could easily abandon the policy, but has chosen not to in favor of using it to pressure Democrats into negotiating a broader immigration deal.

Footage from the restaurant (for some reason Nielsen decided Mexican was a good call) shows her facing the protestors before leaving.
