Last night was the series finale of Girls. The show, created by and starring Lena Dunham, received both praise and criticism throughout the six years it was on TV, but whatever you thought of it, it was a happening. The day after the last episode aired, Dunham took to Instagram to write a thank you note, which she addressed “Dear Everyone.”
“Thank you,” she wrote. “You have made me feel whole again. Not alone. To my collaborators- you are my family. Give any woman 6 years to create uninterrupted and she will SOAR.”
She concluded by saying, “Women’s stories deserve to be told. All kinds of women. We demand opportunity. Love, Lena.”
Director Judd Apatow also posted a message saying, “It has been one of the great experiences of my creative life to have been able to collaborate with Lena and Jenni [Konner] and all of the cast and crew of Girls. People dream of having final cut on a movie.”
He concluded that the experience “could not have meant more” to him.
