Rush Limbaugh said on his show earlier today that Donald Trump is deliberately trying to reach beyond the GOP base to appeal to “leftists” and grow the party.
Whereas many Republicans aren’t happy about Trump defending Planned Parenthood or saying he would be “neutral” about Israel, Limbaugh argued that The Donald is deliberately “saying things that are intriguing to people on the left” in order to possibly flip some states in the general election.
He pointed out that Trump certainly knows the liberal New York culture well, and he’s just “getting a head start” on running toward the center (which it’s expected he would do in the general election).
Limbaugh said this isn’t “incompetence” on Trump’s part, and the strong conservative radio host stuck to a very analytical assessment without expressing any personal feelings about this (though he has said recently that Ted Cruz is the conservative in the race).
