Maxine Waters on Not Attending Trump’s Speech: ‘He’s Not Normal’ and Doesn’t ‘Deserve to be Honored’
At the beginning of an interview with MSNBC’s Joy Reid this morning, Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA) explained why she decided to skip out on President Donald Trump’s address to the joint session of Congress earlier this week.
The outspoken Trump critic first stated that she has been amazed at how “offensive” Trump has shown himself to be.
“As I watched Donald Trump during the campaign,” she told Reid. “I could not believe that this grown man could be so offensive.” She would go on to reference Trump mocking a disabled reporter and his infamous Access Hollywood hot mic moment.
The California lawmaker said that convinced her that Trump “could not represent this country” and that “he was not credible.” Thus, she would not participate in anything that would be considered a “normal fashion.”
“He’s not normal,” Waters exclaimed. “And he does not deserve to be honored.”
She would further add that that Trump “cannot become presidential” and that he “is not someone that deserved to be President of the United States.”
Waters also declined to attend Trump’s inauguration, saying at that time that she didn’t honor or respect him.
