Mediaite’s Aidan McLaughlin on DNC’s Rejecting Fox News: Less a Break from Tradition, More a New Justification
Mediaite Managing Editor Aidan McLaughlin appeared on Law & Crime network Thursday afternoon to discuss DNC chair Tom Perez‘s statement that the party will avoid Fox News network as host for a primary debate in the run-up to the 2020 general election.
The DNC’s announced rejection of Fox News came after an in-depth New Yorker report that suggested the often right-of-center cable news channel had crossed over from being a news and opinion outlet to a propaganda arm for the White House. Perez even cited the author Jane Mayer’s piece as evidence behind the now much-debated decision.
After airing a clip of Fox News anchor Chris Wallace calling out the DNC decision in a radio interview with Brian Kilmeade. saying that “they were just looking for an excuse” inciting the New Yorker article.
McLaughlin agreed with Wallace, noting that the Democratic party primary has never been hosted by Fox News, adding “so this is less a break from tradition, and more just a new reason to not allow Fox to host a primary.”
