Earlier, we posted about Melania Trump receiving Twitter backlash for wearing stilettos as she departed the White House for Texas to tour the damage caused by Hurricane Harvey. Many believed that it was somewhat tone deaf for Mrs. Trump to wear such shoes en route to a disaster zone.
Now, the First Lady’s communications shop is firing back at critics. In a statement via Kate Bennett of CNN, Stephanie Grisham — the communications director for Melania Trump — blasted those who have critiqued the First Lady’s choice of footwear.
“It’s sad that we have an active and ongoing natural disaster in Texas, and people are worried about her shoes,” Grisham said.
The First Lady and her husband, President Donald Trump, landed in Corpus Christi, TX just prior to 11:30 a.m. CT. She did indeed change her shoes — as she now appears to be sporting a pair of Adidas Stan Smith sneakers.
