Michael Avenatti Reacts to Cohen Plea Deal: ‘100 Percent’ Chance He’ll Roll on Trump
As reports emerged that Michael Cohen reached a plea deal with Manhattan federal prosecutors Tuesday, Michael Avenatti said he was only surprised it took so long.
Speaking to MSNBC shortly after the news broke, the lawyer claimed he was sure President Donald Trump’s former fixer would continue to turn on his old boss.
“I know the likelihood of him providing damaging information about the president is 100 percent,” Avenatti said, adding that he’s “been active in connection with the case on behalf of my client,” referring to porn actress Stormy Daniels, who is locked in a legal battle against Trump over a pricey non-disclosure agreement for her silence on their alleged affair.
“I’ve been active in communicating with people in law enforcement,” he added. “There’s no question that he’s going to be providing and has provided information that’s damaging to the president.”
Avenatti clarified that information concerned financial dealings between Cohen and Trump during the time the two worked together.
“Of all the people that the president should have showed loyalty to I guess beyond [Vladimir] Putin, Michael Cohen should have been second on the list,” he said. “You don’t put a guy that has your inner most secrets on an island and treat him the way that Donald Trump has treated Michael Cohen, and ultimately it’s going to come back and bite him.”
Details on Cohen’s plea deal have not yet been made public.
