Missing Congressman Steve Stockman Reportedly Went to Russia, Is Now in London
Representative Steve Stockman (R-TX), who has been nowhere to be seen for almost three weeks, may have just turned up in London after a trip to Russia, according to Breitbart.
Stockman, who submitted a last-minute longshot primary challenge to Senator John Cornyn (R-TX), has missed fifteen roll call votes since January 9, and has held nary a campaign event, despite drastically trailing Cornyn in the polls for an election in early March. Reporters trying to track Stockman down have been met with unresponsive campaign and congressional offices, though he appeared to have been located last week in Cairo, Egypt.
Breitbart reported Sunday afternoon that Stockman sent them a text message stating that, “I am on a bipartisan codel. I’m on foreign affairs. Part of my work,” and told the publication he was currently in London. Breitbart added that it had reviewed a separate communication in which Stockman said he was on his way to Russia to meet with Putin ahead of the CODEL. Stockman did not confirm or deny his alleged travels to Russia.
Breitbart editor Jonathan Strong noted that the CODEL explained only the tail end of his absence:
On Friday, Stockman—a prolific and provocative tweeter—made a brief appearance via Twitter:
