Mitch McConnell Warns Democrats on Gorsuch: ‘He Will Ultimately Be Confirmed’
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell stopped by the set of Fox News Sunday to chat about his plans for the coming week with host Chris Wallace.
Front and center in that discussion was one of the few bright spots for the Trump administration: The nomination of Judge Neil Gorsuch to the Supreme Court. McConnell strongly hinted that if the Democrats filibustered, he would be prepared to invoke the so-called “nuclear option,” eliminating the procedural tool for Supreme Court nominees altogether.
“Judge Gorsuch deserves to be confirmed,” said McConnell. “He will ultimately be confirmed. Exactly how that happens, Chris, will be up to our Democratic colleagues.”
“No Supreme Court justice in the history of our country has ever been stopped by a partisan filibuster,” he continued.
Wallace declined to mention or ask about Judge Merrick Garland. President Obama‘s appointee for the same seat was denied a hearing in the Senate for almost a year and is a principal cause of the current obstruction against Judge Gorsuch.
