During last night’s broadcast of A&E’s Live PD, the program covered a traffic stop in South Carolina that involved an Uber driver caught possessing marijuana. The driver, and passenger, were detained as they searched the car. The driver was initially pulled over for speeding and rolling through a stop sign.
After recapping the situation, explaining that the driver would likely just be ticketed for the possession and warned on his traffic violations as long as the driver didn’t have any active warrants, one of the police officers on the scene tossed some shade at Uber.
Pointing out that the passenger in the car should get a discount because she was trying to get somewhere responsibly, the cop seemed to reference recent news stories involving the ride-sharing app.
“And he needs to be a little more responsible,” the officer stated. “And I hope Uber is watching this because that’s very disappointing.”
Last month, Uber CEO Travis Kalanick was caught on video getting into a heated exchange with an Uber driver over falling compensation for drivers. During the back-and-forth, Kalanick said that “some people don’t like to take responsibility for their own sh*t.” Kalanick would later issue a statement apologizing to the driver and saying he was ashamed of his actions.
This also comes after a former Uber employee recounted her experience of sexism at the company.
