Morning Joe Fingers Kellyanne Conway as Anonymous Op Ed Writer: She’s Trying to Take Down Pence

The majority of the Morning Joe crew has settled on its prediction: Kellyanne Conway wrote the New York Times op-ed.

John Heilemann introduced the idea — citing an Esquire column written by Charles Pierce as having convinced him that the White House counselor was the one who wrote about resisting President Donald Trump from the inside.

“The more you think about it, the more the Kellyanne Conway thing makes some sense,” Heilemann said. “She’s very cagey, she’s the kind of person who would find out that [Vice President] Mike Pence used the word ‘lodestar’ a lot and put lodestar in to try to pin it on Mike Pence.”

Host Joe Scarborough threw out a tidbit in support of the Heilemann and Pierce theory.

“At the end of the campaign she would, in the green room, and around the set, talk about how she couldn’t wait for the campaign to [be] over,” Scarborough said. “This was like her summer abroad.”

Panelist Donny Deutsch was on board too.

“I agree,” he said. “Who is cunning and clever enough to use the word, the Pence word, to throw people?”

The lone dissenter on the Morning Joe set in New York was Willie Geist.

“I think you’re wrong about Kellyanne,” Geist said — adding that he believes the author of the piece is “not a household name.”
