Early in the evening, Nate Silver of the ESPN-owned forecasting website FiveThirtyEight was more bullish on the prospect of a Hillary Clinton victory. (But things have changed dramatically. See update below.)
Speaking with George Stephanopoulos on ABC, the high-profile prognosticator revised his election odds, giving the former Secretary of State a 78% chance of victory, up from 72% earlier in the day. Silver chalked up the increased odds to relative order thus far in the returns, which is favorable for Clinton.
“What we’re seeing is that we’re having some semblance of a normal election night in America,” Silver said. “You’re not seeing New Jersey go red or something like that.”
Silver added that while “no major domino has fallen” (referring to battleground states such as Florida, Ohio, and North Carolina), the results that have come in suggest a more likely Clinton victory.
“The script is going a little more how the Clinton campaign would want it,” Silver said.
