The North Carolina Department of Transportation has apologized after sending out a series of bizarre traffic alert messages, warning drivers to “Stay home because of women drivers, rain, and Obamacare.”
The offending messages went out over NCDOT’s Traveler Information Management System, and it wasn’t the result of a prank or hacking. Instead, NCDOT says, a contractor was performing routine tests on the system and failed to turn off the external feed.
As such, that contractor was let go immediately.
