Netanyahu Opponent: His Speech to Congress ‘Endangers’ Israel’s Security
One of Benjamin Netanyahu‘s election opponents this year is Isaac Herzog, a Zionist Camp/Labor party leader, who has some pretty tough words about Netanyahu’s upcoming address to the United States Congress. The White House isn’t particularly happy with Republicans inviting Netanyahu just weeks ahead of that nation’s elections, but neither are rivals of Netanyahu’s like Herzog.
According to The Times of Israel, Herzog claims there is “great anger” all over the U.S. and Europe over Netanyahu’s speech. He worries that this may affect talks with Iran “for political gain,” and says, “This speech that was born in sin, as an electioneering ‘production,’ endangers the security of Israel’s citizens and the special relationship between Israel and the US.”
And he sent this message directly to Netanyahu:
“With all due respect to Bibi’s campaign, this is the moment when you must act as an Israeli patriot and not throw Israeli security under the bus.”
Netanyahu is still scheduled to speak to Congress on March 3rd. President Obama and Vice President Joe Biden are not planning to attend, and some Democrats may boycott it.
