An NBC News poll released in August found Obama’s approval rating at 44 percent, which was touted as a record low, and a new NBC/Wall Street Journal poll has found Obama’s approval ratings to be at yet another record low, 42 percent, and his disapproval rating at the all-time high of 51 percent.
In the poll [PDF], 32 percent of respondents have a “very negative” view of the president, while 24 percent have a “very positive” one. However, 53 percent of those polled have a somewhat or very negative view of the Republican party, while only 22 percent have a positive view on the party, with the Democrats’ numbers being slightly tilted into the negatives.
Politicians with a more negative perception include Mitch McConnell, Ted Cruz, Harry Reid, and John Boehner. Over the question of which party should control Congress, it comes out in the Democrats’ favor, but only by a small margin, 45-14.
70 percent of those polled believe America is on the wrong track, and 63 percent say the U.S. is in a “state of decline.” However, slightly more people are optimistic about the future of the country than pessimistic.
