Newt Gingrich on CNN’s Jim Acosta: ‘Most People in the Country Thought He Was an Idiot’

Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich was approached by TMZ earlier today and asked to give his opinion on the interaction between President-elect Donald Trump and CNN reporter Jim Acosta.

As you may recall, during yesterday’s press conference, Trump and Acosta got into a shouting match as Trump refused to allow Acosta to ask a question while calling Acosta “fake news” and slamming CNN. Acosta would later state incoming White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer threatened to toss him out of the press conference.

Gingrich, who served as an adviser to Trump during the campaign, laid into Acosta while suggesting that Spicer temporarily ban him from press events.

“I mean the reporter was an idiot,” Gingrich said. “Trump pointed out he was an idiot. Most people in the country thought he was an idiot. I thought from Trump’s standpoint it was fine.”

He added, “I’m hoping Spicer will simply ban Acosta for sixty days, like hockey.”
