‘Not Just in Far-Away Countries…’: Hillary Clinton Encourages American Women to Stand Up for Their Rights

Hillary Clinton has been ramping up the public appearances lately and she’s doing it all in the name of female empowerment.

Two days ago, 2016’s Democratic nominee for the presidency spoke at an event for Girls, Inc. and yesterday on International Women’s Day, she spoke at the Vital Voices Global Leadership Awards. She founded the international, non-profit, which works with female leaders in economics, women’s political participation, and human rights when she was First Lady, so Vital Voices gave her an award to commemorate their 20th anniversary.

Though Vital Voices is an international organization that seeks to help women all around the globe, Clinton delivered a very domestic message last night.

“Our voices have always been vital but they have never been more vital than they are right now,” said the former Secretary of State, who was wearing red in honor of International Women’s Day. “Not just in far-away countries but right here.”

She also told the audience, “we’re just getting started!”
