The New York Attorney General currently going after Donald Trump over Trump University has opened an inquiry into the Trump Foundation.
A spokesman for Eric Schneiderman said today that they “opened an inquiry into the Trump Foundation based on troubling transactions that have recently come to light.”
That transaction concerns the pay-for-play allegation surrounding the foundation’s donation to Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi as her office was considering looking into Trump University too.
Schneiderman himself was on CNN this afternoon to respond to Florida Democrats’ calls for the DOJ to look into the matter, and he told Jake Tapper, “We have been concerned that the Trump Foundation may have engaged in some impropriety… And we’ve inquired into it and we’ve had correspondence with them. I didn’t make a big deal out of it or hold a press conference. We have been looking into the Trump Foundation to make sure it’s complying with the laws governing charities in New York.”
Schneiderman is a Democrat and openly supporting Hillary Clinton.
