Donald Trump’s hometown tabloid, The New York Daily News, rarely holds back when it comes to splashy front pages ripping the president, and Tuesday’s edition was no different.
Trump spent Monday golfing — after White House aides told reporters he would avoid doing so over the weekend to respect victims of last weeks mass school shooting in Florida — near his Mar-a-Lago resort, just miles away from where families of the victims of the massacre attended funerals for their lost loved ones.
“May I play thru?” read the headline of Tuesday’s Daily News, along with a photo of Trump in golf attire giving a thumbs up, and Parkland, Florida high school students carrying a casket in the background.
The Daily News became known during the 2016 election for its famously brutal anti-Trump front covers, taking an adversarial approach against a businessman who was long a fixture of the New York tabloids. The departure of News EIC Jim Rich — a champion of that aggressive front-page style — ushered in a more measured era. But with Rich now back at his old job at the paper, expect the heat to turn right back up.
