After the San Bernardino attack yesterday, a New York sheriff encouraged more residents of his county to carry firearms.
Ulster County Sheriff Paul J. Van Blarcum posted a message on Facebook today saying, “In light of recent events that have occurred in the United States and around the world I want to encourage citizens of Ulster County who are licensed to carry a firearm to PLEASE DO SO.”
He said everyone should be responsibly taking advantage of their rights with proper knowledge of state laws and how to handle the weapon “to ensure the safety of yourself and others.”
The gun control argument has already burst out in full force, with Senate Democrats pushing for background checks and to limit who is able to purchase guns, while Republicans are saying the bigger problematic component is terrorism, not gun access.
