New York Times deputy Washington editor Jon Weisman announced Wednesday he was leaving Twitter after a spate of racist, anti-Semitic, and misogynistic attacks on him and his fellow Times employees.
Weisman said he forwarded several tweets from “Nazi anti-Semites” attacking his reporters on Twitter and sent them to Twitter support. Their response: “We see nothing here that violates our rules.”
Weisman cited two tweets that Twitter said didn’t violate the rules. Once called him a “k*ke,” the other told him he belonged “in the oven” (The accounts have since been suspended). “So I will be moving to Facebook where at least people need to use their real names and can’t hide behind fakery to spread their hate,” Weisman announced.
“I will leave Twitter to the racists, the anti-Semites, the Bernie Bros who attacked women reporters yesterday. Maybe Twitter will rethink,” he concluded in one last tweet.
