NY Times’ Jonathan Martin Gets Barrage of Twitter Hate Meant for Miami Dolphins’ Jonathan Martin

Former POLITICO writer and current New York Times national political correspondent Jonathan Martin is finding out what it’s like to be controversial professional athlete ever since a different Jonathan Martin–this one the offensive tackle rookie on the Miami Dolphins–became the target of vicious hazing attacks by teammate Richie Incognito.

The Times’ Martin tweeted Monday that his @ mentions feed has become full of trolling, hateful messages from people who think they’re talking to the football player.

Deadspin compiled some of the more outrageous tweets that have been thrown Martin’s way over the last several days:

Of course, it not all negative energy flowing Martin’s way. There have also been plenty of messages of love and support for the bullied football player political journalist:

A quick search of “Jonathan Martin” on Twitter makes it hard to understand how even the most impulsive haters would end up tweeting at the wrong person:
