Obama Campaign Responds To Romney’s ‘Birth Certificate’ Line

Mitt Romney‘s line about no one ever having asked for his birth certificate was quick to make the media rounds minutes after he uttered it. And the Obama campaign didn’t pass up the opportunity to respond, using the remark to portray the president’s opponent in a negative light.

President Barack Obama‘s official Twitter account first took a jab at Romney’s comment by offering a particularly patriotic song choice for the day, followed by a reminder to purchase some supportive merchandise:

Obama’s national press secretary, Ben LaBolt, also responded — with the following statement:

“Throughout this campaign, Governor Romney has embraced the most strident voices in his party instead of standing up to them. It’s one thing to give the stage in Tampa to Donald Trump, Sheriff Arpaio, and Kris Kobach. But Governor Romney’s decision to directly enlist himself in the birther movement should give pause to any rational voter across America.”
