Obama Chides World Series Champion Kansas City Royals for ‘Some Tough Decades’
President Obama hosted the World Series champion Kansas City Royals at the White House on Thursday, and promptly needled them for their 30 year World Series drought.
“Let’s face it, it’s been a long road for Royals fans,” Obama said. “There were some dark years, some tough decades.”
The President went on to poke fun Royals’ third baseman Mike Moustakas “(“Moose”), first baseman Eric Hosmer (“Hos”), and catcher Salvador Perez (“Salvy”) for having lame, unoriginal nicknames.
“It’s like Barack ‘Barack’ Obama,” POTUS deadpanned. “We’re going to have to work on these.”
The celebration drew Royals fans from both sides of the aisle; including, notably, former Senator Bob Dole, fresh off his appearance at the Republican National Convention. Seated in the front row, Obama acknowledged Dole, who, despite the RNC appearance, received a warm ovation from those gathered in the East Room.
