Obama Jokes: ‘That’s the Good Thing As a President, I Can Do Whatever I Want’

President Obama met with French President Francois Hollande Monday, and as they walked around Monticello, the president got the urge to “break the protocol” during a tour of Thomas Jefferson‘s Virginia home. With the press following him as he walked with Hollande and the president of the Monticello foundation, Obama cracked wise about the authority of the Commander-in-Chief.

He said, “That’s the good thing as a President, I can do whatever I want.”

Now, by itself, that joke would be pretty innocuous, though given today the White House announced a delay to the Obamacare employer mandate, some conservative sites couldn’t help but find that some ironic phrasing, at the very least.

It also elicited some negative feedback on Twitter, including this observation from the press secretary for the Republican Governors Association.
