Earlier today, it was reported that President Barack Obama had ordered a full review of the possible interference in this year’s elections by Russian cyberattacks and hacking. This comes on the heels of members of Congress pressing POTUS to provide more information about what intelligence agencies had gathered regarding the charges that Russia tried to influence the presidential election.
In response to this news, Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA), Chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, explained that he is not surprised by “Russia’s belligerence” but mocked Obama for only now caring about Russian threats.
“I’ve said many times, the Intelligence Community has repeatedly failed to anticipate Putin’s hostile actions. Unfortunately the Obama administration, dedicated to delusions of ‘resetting’ relations with Russia, ignored pleas by numerous Intelligence Committee members to take more forceful action against the Kremlin’s aggression. It appears, however, that after eight years the administration has suddenly awoken to the threat.”
Nunes is a member of President-elect Donald Trump’s transition team. Trump has continuously expressed skepticism over Russia’s involvement in the email hacks of the DNC and Hillary Clinton ally John Podesta, among other incidents. This despite intelligence agencies stating that they were confident Russia had directed these actions for the sake of impacting the election.
