Ocasio-Cortez Demands Green New Deal ASAP: ‘People Are Going to Die’ Due to Climate Change
Congresswoman-elect Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) declared that if the U.S. Congress does not act on climate change as soon as possible, “people are going to die.”
“People are going to die if we don’t start addressing climate change ASAP,” she said. “It’s not enough to think it’s ‘important.’ We must make it urgent.”
“That’s why we need a Select Committee on a Green New Deal, & why fossil fuel-funded officials shouldn’t be writing climate change policy,” Ocasio-Cortez added.

The soon-to-be lawmaker posted the tweet in response to the U.S. Global Change Research Program’s annual climate change report, which described how the climate trends “threaten to exacerbate existing social and economic inequalities that result in higher exposure and sensitivity to extreme weather and climate-related events and other changes.”
Recently, Ocasio-Cortez led a group of leftist activists in protesting Congress for a Green New Deal — i.e., a government subsidized jobs programs aimed at creating environmentally friendly industries.
