Ocasio-Cortez Slams Media For ‘Reckless, Irresponsible’ Publishing Details of Her Home: ‘This Isn’t a Game’
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) slammed media outlets for exposing details of her new apartment in Navy Yard, Washington, D.C. on the same day a white nationalist was arrested for keeping a stash of weapons with a hit list of Democrat politicians and journalists that included her.
“Journalists are sharing stories about where I live the same day it’s shared that myself and others were targeted by a mass shooter,” the freshman congresswoman tweeted Thursday. “All this paired w/ amplifying unvetted conspiracy theories. It’s reckless, irresponsible & puts people directly in danger. This isn’t a game.”

Ocasio-Cortez quote-tweeted a report from the George Washington University Program on Extremism’s Seamus Hughes about U.S. Coast Guard Lieutenant Christopher Hasson, who had been arrested on drug and gun charges when cops found the hit list and weapons. Authorities also found letters in his possession that were addressed to other self-described white nationalists advocating for a white state.
Other public figures on the suspected assailant’s hit list included MSNBC’s Chris Hayes, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA), and Rep. Beto O’Rourke (D-TX), among others.
The media story Ocasio-Cortez was referring to was The Washington Free Beacon’s article about her “Luxury Navy Yard Apartment Building” last week, which did not disclose her address “due to safety concerns” but described “a wide array of amenities where rent for even a studio apartment exceeds $2,000 a month.” The story was then picked up by other media outlets.
