Pelosi: Russia’s Anti-Gay Policies ‘Speaks to the Inappropriateness’ of Letting Them Host Olympics

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) sat down with Now This News recently where she was asked about her position on the Olympics opening tonight in Sochi, Russia. Pelosi said she is “disappointed” that Russia was chosen as the site of the 2014 Winter Olympics because of Moscow’s position on LGBT rights.

“I’m disappointed that Sochi is the site,” Pelosi said. “The Olympic committee has never been one to be concerned about human rights and I think that this was a very bad choice to have the Olympics.”

“In light of the LGBT issues, it’s like going into ancient history,” she continued. “The whole world has moved to a different place and that this should even be an issue just speaks to the inappropriateness of Russia being the site for the winter Olympics.”

Pelosi did disclose that, in spite of her objection to Russia hosting the Olympics, she plans on watching many of the events.
