Pennsylvania DA Candidates Attack Each Other Over Bill Cosby
It’s finally happened, folks: we have a political campaign on our hands where Bill Cosby is being wielded as a weapon.
Democrat Kevin Steele and Republican Bruce Castor are both running in the race for Montgomery County, Pennsylvania district attorney, and Steele put out an attack ad this week going after Castor for not prosecuting Cosby.
Back in 2005, when Temple University employee Andrea Constand came forward with allegations that Cosby raped her, Castor looked into the case and determined there was insufficient evidence to prosecute. When asked about that decision last October, after a lot more women publicly came out to say Cosby raped them, Castor said he stood by his decision.
Well, Steele put out an ad this week attacking Castor over his judgment on that case, invoking all the women who have come forward since.
Castor shot back in an ad of his own saying the identities of the other women were not publicly known until after he left his job, immediately pivoting to attack Steele because, Castor says, he’s still a prosecutor and could have chosen to take action himself.
So yes, we have now reached the point where Bill Cosby is being used in political attack ads.
