How’s this for a message of inclusion?
On the final day of 2016, the President-elect of the United States — Donald J. Trump — awoke and Tweeted out this heart-warming message of good tidings:
“Happy New Year to all, including to my many enemies,” writes the man who will be Commander in Chief in 21 days, “including to my many enemies and those who have fought me and lost so badly they just don’t know what to do.”
One final spike of the football in 2016, a juvenile assault seeping with all of the childish cynicism of a kid who proved his parents wrong and is gyrating wildly on top of the mountain he was told he couldn’t climb. This schtick was cute on the campaign trail, when a candidate the likes of which we’ve never seen straight up insulted himself to the party nomination despite the cries of his respectable and honorable Republican peers. Then this schtick was less cute but at least somewhat forgivable when he brashly called his female opponent a “nasty woman” and continued his assault against decency.
But now, the stakes are different. Mr. President-elect is no longer a personal man defending his own name and dignity on his terms; nor is he simply a
Love!
