President Obama saying the n-word on Marc Maron‘s radio show set off basically everyone on the news biz, with lots of arguments over 1) the appropriateness of using the n-word, and 2) the appropriateness of the president using the n-word.
Piers Morgan used the opportunity to bring up his piece from last year on why society needs to eradicate the n-word entirely and how black Americans should stop using it to discourage its use.
He expounded on Twitter:
The N-word is used 500,000 times a day on Twitter alone. Mostly by young black Americans.
How does that help get rid of this hideous word?
— Piers Morgan (@piersmorgan) June 22, 2015
I don't think ANYONE should use the N-word.
This apparently makes me a 'racist'.
Ludicrous.
— Piers Morgan (@piersmorgan) June 22, 2015
No, but I think it might help > RT @Gus_802 Piers Morgan thinks not using the n-word is all it takes to end racism.

The N-word, like the Confederate flag, is a sickening reminder of America's shameful past. Get rid of both & move the country on.
— Piers Morgan (@piersmorgan) June 22, 2015
I get why black Americans use it, but I don't think it helps. > RT @JoeDrinkhall @piersmorgan what are your thoughts on the word "Nigga"?
— Piers Morgan (@piersmorgan) June 22, 2015
But the real nub of it was Morgan making an argument about curtailing free speech, which set off lots of red flags:
What would I do with white people who use the N-word? Jail them.

Good old Ben..wants the right to wave his little gun around AND use the N-word! https://t.co/CQBMFKqmIn

In South Africa, use of the K-word is illegal and people go to jail for it.
This is not a new idea, and it works. https://t.co/OVpFobmM9R

Not sure how I feel about a 'freedom of speech' that prohibits me shouting 'FIRE!' in a crowded theater but lets me use the N-word. #1A

I respect the Constitution but it can be amended. Obviously. > RT @JackmDTpa: @piersmorgan so you don't believe in the 1st amendment?
