Police Respond to Call From Woman Claiming ‘Affluenza Teen’s’ Dad Choked Her
America’s least amusing quasi-celebrity family just gets less and less amusing. Over the weekend, drunk driving mass killer Ethan Couch’s father, Fred Couch, was accused of choking a woman who said she was his girlfriend, but when police responded to the call, the woman refused to cooperate:
Tarrant County sheriff’s deputies responded to a Friday night call for help from a woman who said she was Fred Couch’s girlfriend, Sheriff Dee Anderson said.
Couch wasn’t home when investigators arrived, and the woman who answered the door did not cooperate, he said.
“Deputies saw she had some redness around her neck, potential choke marks,” the sheriff said.
Lack of cooperation from victims is a common feature of domestic violence cases, which has led many states and jurisdictions to adopt mandatory arrest laws.
The elder Couch has a prior history of assault and other misconduct, but since Texas is not a “must-arrest” state, no arrest and no charges were made against Couch. Watch a video report on the incident above, from The New York Daily News.
