The ongoing revelations about ousted Fox News CEO Roger Ailes have turned up a new account in which the media giant allegedly talked about forcefully dealing with a reporter for New York Magazine.
Before he reported on Ailes’ allegations of sexual harassment and other questionable actions, national affairs editor Gabriel Sherman wrote a book on the Fox News chairman called The Loudest Voice in the Room. Politico reported on Wednesday that not only was Sherman a target of Ailes’ campaign against his media enemies, he was also the subject of a very particular discussion among Fox News higher-ups while he was writing the 2014 biography.
Politico reported on multiple sources who recounted that Ailes said, “I know where [Sherman] lives, and I’m gonna send people to beat the shit out of him.” In a separate conversation, one of Politico’s sources said that there would be major consequences if the public knew what Fox was doing to Sherman.
“If it ever came out, multiple people at Fox would go to jail,” the source said. Peter J. Boyer, a former Fox staffer who was let go recently, was also reported to have been present during Ailes’ “war room” meetings, and allegedly observed talks about how to undermine Sherman.
