Good luck trying to avoid the presidential race when the Olympics are on. A Romney family horse is going to be on the U.S. dressage team, and now reports are saying the pro-Mitt Romney Super PAC Restore Our Future is spending over 7 million dollars to buy ads in over ten states when the Olympics kick off on NBC later this month.
The ad buy was announced late last week by the Super PAC. According to ABC News, the pro-Romney ads are going to run in 11 key states, including Florida, New Hampshire, Ohio, and Pennsylvania. In a statement, the Super PAC’s treasurer acknowledged Romney’s long-standing ties to the Olympics and what it says about his economic record.
“Ten years ago, Mitt Romney rescued the Salt Lake City Olympics from scandal and financial ruin, transforming a crushing deficit into a surplus and delivering a safe and secure Olympics less than a year after September 11… Mitt Romney is a proven leader who is capable of turning our economy around and creating an environment where we can once again realize the American Dream.”
Meanwhile, President Obama‘s campaign is putting $5.5 million into Olympic ad buys, though other reports say the Obama campaign’s buy could be as high as $6.5 million. In 2008, the Obama campaign spent $5 million during the Olympics while the John McCain campaign spent $6 million.
