Sending death threats to the accountants that made the Oscars mistake heard ’round the world feels a little extreme, but that’s what has happened.
According to a report from TMZ, because of these death threats, Pricewaterhouse Coopers has had to hire bodyguards for Brian Cullinan and Martha Ruiz. The decision to protect the employees reportedly came when photos of their homes appeared online. Their families also have bodyguards. TMZ obtained a photo of Cullinan’s wife shopping with security behind her.
Some of the threats reportedly say things like “I hope you get fired and get cancer.” Yes, they made a mistake. Yes, it was a big mistake. And, yes, that mistake hurt people. Cancer, however, feels like a pretty severe punishment for what was an honest, albeit majorly preventable mistake.
